The wealth of historic content makes Tarn-and-Garonne a virtual "open air museum".  Montauban with its Ingres museum; Moissac, an important tourist site in the Midi-Pyrénées; the Garonne Canal and the Pilgrims way of St-Jacques de Compostelle are all declared World Heritage sites by UNESCO.
